WELCOME TO THE INSTITUTE OF CHARTERED SHIPBROKERS AUSTRALIA & NEW ZEALAND BRANCH

The Seminar series continues in Sydney on 21st April 2011. Click here for more info.

The ICSANZ seminar series for 2011.

The first of the seminars was presented on 1st April 2011.

Understanding the Limitations of the International Maritime Solid Bulk Cargoes (IMSBC) Code.

About 65 persons registered for the ICS Seminar "Understanding the Limitations of the International Maritime Solid Bulk Cargoes (IMSBC) Code" of which 60 attended on the day. The attendance list indicated that this was a topic that interested many within the various maritime organisations.

We sincerely thank both Speakers - David Anderson from AMSA (explaining Marine Notice 19/2010 and David Worner (Aspects for the shipper and ship owner) for giving us a riveting presentation on each facet of the new amendments.

We also thank Ron Salter and DLA Philips Fox for the use of their venue free of charge.

The Seminar focussed on the questions revolving around shippers being inconvenienced by the documentation required by the new amendments and that the flag state will only speak to vessel owners. However, at times it is almost impossible for the shippers to identify, let alone communicate with the owners.  Question time continued well into the lunch break and the Seminar which started at 11:00am broke only sometime after 1:00pm.

To those of you interested or who might find yourselves in Sydney next week, the Sydney Seminar is by Rightships on Thursday 21 April.

The Australia & New Zealand Branch is sub-divided into two Chapters. The Australian Chapter is based in Melbourne and has 100+ members. The New Zealand Chapter is based in Auckland, and has 30 plus members. The New Zealand Branch provides services to the South Pacific and Australia provides services to PNG.  The Australia and New Zealand Branch is a fully incorporated institute.

The New Zealand Chapter offers the Understanding Shipping Course for new entrants to the shipping industry and liaises with the Branch Distance Learning Centre, based in Australia, for the Foundation Diploma and Qualifying Examinations.  These are all internationally recognised qualifications.
