The ANZ Branch is very proud to announce the ICS April 2015 qualifying examination results and prize winners.  A record number of 40 students sat 76 exams in April and we had a pass rate of 60%.The Branch Award of $400 donated by Pacific Basin to the student obtaining the highest aggregate marks was awarded to Mr Peter Batri of Farstad Shipping. We are pleased to announce that Peter also achieved the highest marks worldwide in the subject Offshore Support Industry and has been invited to attend the ICS prize distribution to be held in London on 15 October 2015.Excellence Awards of $200 each were awarded to students obtaining a distinction in a subject: Peter Batri received the award in Offshore Support Industry, donated by Holman Fenwick Willan; and
Alex Blott of PB Towage received the award in Dry Cargo Chartering, donated by Capt Richard Strachan, FICS.

We are extremely proud of all our students, for their hard work and dedication throughout the year and we congratulate them unreservedly on their achievements.

We would also like to thank all our tutors this year, who undoubtedly worked as hard as the students.

We are pleased to announce that the following students passed their exams which were held in Melbourne and Auckland in November 2014.

Congratulations to all the above and commiserations to those who failed and whom we encourage to try again.

Regarding those who passed please be aware that Mr Alex Blott and Mr Andrew Tonkin have now completed their Professional Qualifying Exams (PQE) and as a result are eligible to become members and we look forward to welcoming them into the Institute of Chartered Shipbrokers at the earliest opportunity.

We are pleased to report that the exam results for the 2013-2014 academic year are just in and the Australia and New Zealand Branch obtained a 77.5% pass rate.  Before we congratulate our students, we must congratulate our tutors, through whose efforts our students excelled.  We had 37 registered students who sat 74 exams in 5 exam centres around Australia and New Zealand which was a significant increase over the previous year.

Mr Brice Marion of Pacific Basin New Zealand received the Branch Prize of $500 for the highest aggregate exam score.

Further good news was that we had two distinctions –  Captain Arvind Kumar of BP, Brisbane in Economics of Sea Transport and Mr Alexander Blott of PB Towage, Perth in Shipping Finance.  Each was presented with an Excellence Award and a cheque for $250.  These distinctions were obtained in competition with 2,600 other students sitting the exams in 115 exam centres throughout the world so well done to these two students indeed.

These awards and prizes from the Australia and New Zealand branch were made for the first time this year and we hope to continue this practice in the future.

Education Officer’s Report

In the academic year just completed, we had 28 students who registered for our courses and who sat 62 exams in 6 exam centres in Australia and New Zealand.  The exam results were announced by London on 8th August 2013 and I am pleased to announce that our Branch had an 80% pass rate, a slight improvement on last year.

Of the students who sat their exams, Alex Blott of PB Towage in Perth obtained a Distinction in Shipping Business.  Congratulations to him.

Also to be congratulated are Tim Polson of  Asiaworld Shipping Services in  Brisbane,  Belinda Snell of Nautilus Shipping Agency in Tauranga  NZ, Stuart Wilkinson of Braemar Seascope in Perth and Rahul Khanna of  RS Platou in Sydney.  They have all successfully completed their exams and are now eligible for ICS membership.

We also have two students who have successfully completed their Foundation Diplomas.  Anna Mylam from Sydney and Rohan Stagg from Melbourne.  Congratulations to them as well.

To those who were unsuccessful at this year’s exams, I ask you not to be disheartened, you can try again and if you need additional tutoring, please contact our Secretariat.  For the companies, enrolling more of your staff in our courses will result in them obtaining an internationally recognised professional qualification and you will have a properly prepared company employee ready to meet the demands of our ever changing industry.

On behalf of the Institute of Chartered Shipbrokers (ICS) Australia-New Zealand Branch, I would like to congratulate the students who have passed their ICS Professional Qualifying Exams (PQE) this year. To those who have passed individual subjects but have not yet completed the PQE Program, well done; and I encourage them to continue with their studies and exam preparations in the new academic year 2012-2013.The overall pass rate this year in Australia-New Zealand was 84 per cent. Our successful students included one student who got an award for the highest mark worldwide in one of his subjects and three others who have now completed the PQE programme.Well done to them! We look forward to you submitting your application for Membership to the Institute of Chartered Shipbrokers, through the Australia-New Zealand Branch, without delay.The significant increase in students sitting the ICS exams world-wide was reflected here in Australia-New Zealand and proves the value the shipping industry sees in an ICS professional qualification. For those who were not successful this year or who were not able to sit their exam for any particular reason, I would encourage you to register again with the ICS Australia-New Zealand Branch and our tutors will do their best to assist you in your studies with a view to successfully passing the exams next year. Annual General Meeting 2018 - The ICS Branch AGM was held on Thursday 23 August 2018 in Melbourne. The minutes of the meeting will be posted shortly.
